Today I am thankful for…

Today I am thankful for running shoes, beautiful weather, & a healthy body.  Let me tell you why…

I am a proud new member of the YMCA and since I had a small amount of free time this afternoon between work and presenting at Wofford’s Civic Engagement I figured I would go to the gym to get a quick workout in.  After swiping my card and heading to the womens health room to change clothes, I realized I had taken my hair band off my wrist earlier today and left it in my car.  As I was heading to my car to get the hair band the lady at the front desk said, “have a nice night,” to which I replied, “oh I just need something out of my car, I will actually be right back in.”  Not.  I sat down in my car scavenging for the silly hair band and after I found one, decided there was no reason to take my bag in since I had already changed…in turn I grabbed my ipod, hopped out of the car, and shut the door–then I immediately realized I just locked my keys in the car.  Oops.  I do believe this was the first time I have ever locked my keys in the car.

And this is where me being thankful for my shoes, beautiful weather (because it was pouring rain this morning), and a healthy body come in.  Since both of my roommates are out of town and I am too stubborn to call someone to unlock my car when I know I have a spare, I decided to make an event of this.  The only option I could think of was to run back to my apartment, hope that someone was there with a spare/who could make a spare to my apartment building, and then hope that I remembered where I put my spare car key.  Success on all accounts!  Moral(s) of the story:
–ALWAYS ask myself if I have my keys before I get out of the car!
–Just because something seems to be going wrong (locking my keys in the car)–doesn’t mean that something enjoyable and good can’t come from it (a nice run on a beautiful afternoon)
–Spare keys are super helpful.
**ps the same lady who told me to have a good night some time earlier was getting off her shift when I came running up to my car in the parking lot….she just smiled and looked kind of confused when she saw me
