Turning my Complaints to Praise

I was talking (complaining) to a friend today about how I didn’t want to take time to go get my oil changed.  Afterwards I had a small revelation…. I should be thankful I have a car, and a dad who taught me it is important to take care of it, and the ability to drive to the grocery store when I need more milk….. and the cascade began.  I am thankful.  For you. For life. For the love of a God that is ever-present.

Lately I have been realizing that I am complaining a lot, which is sometimes common when you are in school- why did my professor ask me THAT on the test, I hate staying up late to study for a dumb test, I don’t want to do my reading for class, and the list goes on…. I also know that, for me at least, when I start complaining then my praises seem less and less and life isn’t as beautiful as it really should be.  This is especially convicting for me because my favorite verse is Philippians 2:14-18-

Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life–in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.  But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.  So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.”

So in honor of November and all things Thanksgiving, I am going to try and blog once a day all month about something I am thankful for and maybe will continue the tradition weekly after our thankful holiday has passed.  Some days I may simply post a word with a picture and others (when my silly nursing school agenda permits) I will write a lil more. Hope you enjoy and maybe even make your own list of things you are thankful for!

I had to… you can’t talk about Thanksgiving without having a cornucopia (what weird traditions we North American’s have).

Well today I am thankful for my new idea…  haha I am going to save my first real thankful post for tomorrow!
